Our Story
Pleasant Grove Baptist Church was organized in 1852 and, from the very beginning, has been a place of worship, community, and faithful service to the Dillon area. Though the original meeting place stood nearby, the heart of the church has always remained the same—a people committed to following Christ.
Over the years, the church has grown and changed, and each generation has left its mark. From the early wooden structure, to the expanded white sanctuary, and now to the brick church we worship in today, every season reflects growth and a steady dedication to the work of the Lord. These buildings tell a story—not just of construction, but of faith, perseverance, and vision.
Pleasant Grove has long been a Bible‑centered, family‑oriented church where the Word of God is taught and people are encouraged to grow in their walk with Christ. Generations have come through these doors—worshiping together, serving together, and building lasting relationships rooted in faith.
The life of our church reaches far beyond Sunday services. Through outreach, community ministry, and a heart for helping others, Pleasant Grove seeks to live out the Gospel in practical ways. Whether through local visitation, supporting those in need, or investing in the next generation, our mission is to share the love of Christ both within our walls and beyond them.
As we look to the future, we do so with our eyes fixed on Jesus, just as those before us have done:

Pastor: Dr. Mike Tyree
Dr. Tyree serves as Pastor of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, faithfully preaching and teaching God’s Word, providing spiritual leadership, and shepherding the church family with wisdom and care. He works to equip believers, strengthen families, and guide the church in fulfilling its mission to reach the lost, make disciples, and grow in Christ.
WMU Director: Barbara Minshew
Barbara leads our Women’s Missionary Union, organizing mission efforts and encouraging women to actively participate in prayer, giving, and service. Her leadership helps keep our church engaged in missions both locally and around the world.
Meet Our Leadership
At Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, we are blessed with faithful leaders who serve the Lord and our church family with dedication, humility, and a heart for ministry. Each plays an important role in helping us grow in faith, serve our community, and carry out the mission of the church.
Children’s Church Leader: Howard Brigman
Howard leads Children’s Church, preparing lessons and activities that provide a loving and engaging environment where children can learn God’s Word in a way that is meaningful and age-appropriate.
Youth and Activities Director / Ministry Assistant: Christopher Jackson
Christopher serves as Youth and Activities Director and Ministry Assistant, coordinating youth activities, supporting the daily ministry of the church office, and helping connect families to church life.
Brotherhood Director: James Powell
James leads our Brotherhood ministry, organizing opportunities for fellowship, service, and spiritual growth. He encourages men to grow in their faith and to serve both the church and the community faithfully.
Nursery Coordinator: Amy Powell
Amy coordinates our nursery ministry, organizing care for our youngest members and ensuring a safe, welcoming, and nurturing environment during services.
Interim Music Director: David Jones
David leads our music ministry and congregational worship, working with singers and musicians to prepare meaningful services that glorify the Lord. His leadership helps guide the church in worship as we lift our hearts and voices together in praise.
Sunday School Director: Laurie Dwyer
Laurie serves as our Sunday School Director, coordinating classes for all ages and helping people grow in their knowledge of God’s Word. She supports our teachers, welcomes newcomers into a class, and encourages everyone to keep learning and living out their faith.
Financial & Stewardship Leadership
Treasurer: David Longacre – David oversees the church’s financial records and offerings, maintaining accurate accounts and helping ensure that all resources are managed responsibly and used effectively for ministry.
Stewardship Committee Chair: David Jones – As Stewardship Committee Chair, David helps guide the church in financial planning and budgeting, working alongside leadership to ensure that our resources are used wisely in support of the church’s mission.
Deacons
Our deacons faithfully support the pastor, care for the needs of the church family, and assist in the ministries of the church through service, prayer, and outreach. They serve as a vital part of the church’s leadership and ministry team.
